Gas-Phase Filters and AMC

AAF Gas Phase Filters are  suitable for a wide range of commercial applications where people, processes and equipment need to be protected from contaminated air. Our solutions help remove a wide range of gaseous contaminants and odours, whether they enter your space from outside or are released from areas within your facility. AAF´s Gas Phase Products are designed for your specific environment, from airports to museums, from semiconductor manufacturing to archive storage facilities. AAF filtration products are trusted worldwide for their quality, efficiency and low total cost of ownership.

An activated carbon filter (also known as an AMC (Airborne Molecular Contamination) filter) is a filter that uses mostly activated carbon to remove gaseous contaminants and odours from air. Activated carbon is a form of carbon with the unique property of adsorbing and binding gaseous contaminants and odours economically. Virgin and impregnated activated carbon pellets and chemical mixtures are designed to efficiently remove gaseous contaminants from air streams in order to improve indoor air quality, combat unpleasant odours or prevent corrosion.

How activated carbon filters work

Activated carbon filters work on the principle of adsorbtion and chemisorption.

Adsorption is the quick, reversible attachment of contaminant molecules onto the activated carbon surface, while chemisorption forms strong chemical bonds for long‑lasting and highly selective attachment. The large number of pores and cavities in activated carbon provides an enormous surface area for the contaminants to adhere to, enabling fast initial capture and high‑performance stability. Together, these processes make activated carbon ideal for efficient, sustainable, non-toxic and reliable purification across different applications.

Applications of activated carbon filters

Our activated carbon filters are classified according to 10121-3

Activated carbon cassettes and cylinders

In addition to activated carbon air filters, we also have activated carbon cassettes and cylinders in our range. Activated carbon cassettes are filter units containing activated carbon that is built into a sturdy cassette. The carbon in these cassettes is suitable for various types of filtration systems, such as air purifiers and HVAC systems. The cartridges are designed to be easily replaced when they become saturated with contaminants.

An activated carbon cylinder (also known as an activated carbon cartridge) is a cylinder-shaped filter filled with activated carbon. This material consists of highly porous carbon with an enormous internal surface area. This allows it to absorb unwanted substances from the air.

Activated carbon medias & filters

Our activated carbon air filters are available in a metal, a plastic or a cardboard frame. The filter media is available in optional synthetic prefilter media combined with activated carbon.

In addition, loose activated carbon is available. These are equipped with virgin or impregnated carbon granules (pellets). These are available in 25 kg bags and 499 kg big bags.
